Meet The Authors
The young student parents of Generation Hope wanted to create books for toddlers that were inspired by their own children and lived experiences as busy college-going mothers. With the support of SMP teaching artists and talented emerging illustrators, Generation Hope authors collaborated in small groups to write fun and engaging books that celebrate all families. Their books are reaching our youngest readers through an exciting partnership with Inspired Child’s early childhood education programs across DC, as well as Author Talks, book donations, and book sales. Proceeds from their books support new authors and fund scholarships for the Generation Hope community.
RAYLIN is an Afro-Latina from the Dominican Republic who now lives in the DC metropolitan area. She is the mother of a beautiful daughter named Faith. Every Day We Say is her first book.
GRACIE (she/her) is a mom to her incredible daughter Christine. Gracie earned her associate’s degree from Montgomery College and will soon complete her bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland Global Campus.
Andrea is a 22-year-old Latina immigrant from Michoacan, Mexico. She is the mother of two little girls, Catalina and Antonela.
Tamara is a 23-year-old second-generation Sri Lankan American from western New York. A Day Just For Us is her first published book.
Aniyah is a 22-year-old African American from Washington, DC. A Day Just For Us is her first published book.
Diana is a 21-year-old Mexican American from Brooklyn, New York. A Day Just For Us is her first published book.
Abby is a recent graduate of Howard Community College and is currently a junior at University of Maryland Global Campus, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in business administration.
Katie is a mother to a two-year-old boy named Messiah. She is currently attending Montgomery College pursuing a degree in business.

These books do a lot in less than thirty pages! They help kids learn about the days of the week and the community members that make up our families, or explore sounds and rhymes while teaching about Central America. They use imagination and curiosity to help kids manage separation anxiety, or celebrate diversity while honoring identities that don’t always get featured in books.
