One Lonely Camel

One Lonely Camel
by Rashaan, Sejal, DaQuan, and Zorita of Reach Incorporated
How often do our stories for children explore sadness, loneliness, and disruption? While these children’s books are rare, the reality is all too present for many of our young people. Teen authors Rashaan, Sejal, DaQuan, and Zorita took on this challenging topic through the eyes of Larry, the lonely (rapping) camel.

Meet the Authors
As reading tutors to elementary-aged students, the teens of Reach noticed that few children's books reflected their lived experience as youth of color. So they decided to take action and write their own. Now these D.C. teens are diversifying children's literature, one smart-fun-real-brave-bold story at a time.
Da'Quan attended Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School when he authored his book. He;s been practicing Islam for almost five years now and has been looked at differently for this choice. But he thinks being different could be the best thing ever: "Just be yourself and you'll find similarities in any person you come across."
Rashaan likes to sing, rap, and write poetry. In his spare time he plays football and basketball. He is the brother of five and attended Eastern High School when he authored his book.
Sejal attended Perry Street Preparatory Public Charter School when she authored her book. Her hobbies include playing rugby, cheerleading, reading, and writing.
